A written Chinese character is a combination of strokes. Therefore, it is required to have a sound knowledge of strokes before you start to write Mandarin Chinese. Among the ten basic strokes, this lesson teaches you names and the correct way of writing five simple strokes listed below. Also, you will get to know the differences in strokes’ shape formation and required strokes order for the Chinese character legibility.
  1. Héng, 橫(Horizontal): Rightward stroke
  2. Shù, 豎(Vertical): Downward stroke
